This is the Age of Man.
Several of the world's major mountain
chains were uplifted-the Rockies, the Andes,
the Alps, and the Himalayas.
With the end of the Pleistocene,
the huge mammals became extinct
over most of the world. Only in Africa
does a mammalian fauna resembling
hat of the Pleistocene remain, but even
there a number of large Pleistocene
species have become extinct.
