MONTESSORI BIOLOGY : Phylum Chlorophyta

KINGDOM PROTOCTISTA

Phylum Chlorophyta

Chlorophyta, also known as green algae,
are both single-cell and multicellular colonies.
The cell walls of chlorophyta are made of
cellulose and pectins which make the
chlorophyta stiff structures like plants. Most
chlorophyta have flagella of equal length.

Reproduction in some chlorophyta
occurs when mature cells of unlike mating
types come together. In other chlorophyta
the large non-moving female egg is fertilized
by the small moving male sperm. Probably
chlorophyta were the precursers
to the Plant Kingdom.

Chloros : yellow-green (Greek)
Phyton : plant (Greek)
